Color of the Year: Sand & Sisal vs. Pantone

Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2011 is:

honeysuckle Panetone

COURAGEOUS ~ CONFIDENT ~ VITAL

Honeysuckle would work just fine for me in a shiny, snakeskin heel,

or a strappy silk dress.

But there’s no way Handsome will ever allow Honeysuckle as a decorating color in our home (unless it’s in the girls’ rooms, of course).

Joyfully, I  remain oh-so-passé for 2011.

(I’m not feeling the slightest bit worried about it either)

Let me to introduce to you “Sand & Sisal’s Color of the Year for 2011”!

SandandSisal palette

This is what I’ve chosen for my master bedroom and bath.

Colors of sand, sky, water, and wood.

Inspiration came from nature elements I already owned.

I love the soft blues, greens and browns in this hydrangea,

the pearly creams of the seashell,

the golden warmth of the sandy sisal rope,

and the strong classic mahogany to anchor the palette.

The paint colors are Urban Putty and Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams.

When choosing colors for a room I always select 3.

A main color, a sub color, and an accent.

Then every thing develops around those three colors.

My 3 are the putty, rainwashed and a creamy white.

Layers of texture in those colors are added to the room in fabric choices.

I fell in love with the watery blues and sandy browns of this glass and stone tile at a recent home show,

and knew I had to have it accent my bathroom (but I’m still tying to get it delivered!)

Every girl needs her bling,

and every room needs a bit of sparkle.

The accents in the room will be mercury glass, brushed nickel, and chrome.

Are you feeling the tranquility yet?

It’s coming together slowly.

Today I’ll be caulking the crown molding we installed in the room,

and hopefully painting the trim too.

So keep watching for the big reveal (hopefully soon!!!)

Tell me your thoughts on Pantone’s 2011 Forecast of Honeysuckle and the Sand & Sisal Forecast!

I love to hear your comments!

No Honeysuckle for me either! last years turquoise was so much more liveable. I love your color palette, Kim, so calm & soothing. It’s going to be beautiful!

    Kim,

I agree with you about the honeysuckle! I love your choice of fabric and paints. I live near the water too and aspire to a calming coastal blue bedroom retreat. I can’t wait to see yours!

Hi Mary! It is called Seabreeze and was available at Lowes back in 2011. I’m not sure they carry it anymore though. Thanks!
