Glass Float Summer Wreath

Coastal wreaths· Crafts· glass floats· How to· Sea Glass· wreaths

Decorating with rope is a hot trend right now and you all know how much I love my sisal rope! You’ve seen my projects using sisal rope on my Sisal Shade, my Textured Cones, and my in Sisal Obsession. So pairing rope and glass floats seemed like the perfect for a beautiful Glass Float Summer Wreath.

Glass Float Summer Wreath

To make a

Glass Float Summer Wreath

you will need the following:

Straw wreath

sisal rope (any size you like)

Glass Floats (purchased or click here to make your own glass floats)

Straight pins & hot glue

Sea shells, starfish, sea glass, beach grass, or any other beachy décor you like.

Start wrapping your straw wreath with sisal rope. Easily secure the rope to the wreath with straight pins along the backside.

Pin rope onto straw wreath

I used what I already had on hand. I had 2 different sizes of rope and alternated wrapping them around the wreath in wide bands.

wrap wreath with rope

After your wreath is wrapped with rope, decorate your wreath with starfish, shells, sea glass, and glass floats. For a step by step tutorial on how to make your own glass floats click here. Group and secure your glass floats together with twine and wrap around your wreath where desired. TIP: hang your wreath upright and THEN decorate it to ensure good visual balance and design.

Glass floats

Attach large starfish with stretchy, clear cording. It is virtually invisible and inexpensive. I purchased the cording at Michaels.

Wrap shells with elastic cord

Group your sea shells, starfish, and glass floats along the bottom of the wreath. Tuck in pieces of colorful sea glass as filler around your starfish. Secure shells and glass with hot glue. You can find bags of manufactured sea glass at Pier One.

Beautiful wreath. I love the sisal and the floats and, of course, the starfish. So pretty for summer by the sea.

Can this be outdoors for the whole summer? Rain, wind, and storm? I had an issue with my starfish molding last year! 🙁

      Sharon,
I had the exact same thing happen to my seashells and starfish wreath, which I had ordered from a catalog. Moldy! 🙁 It wasn’t even outside, it was hanging inside my front porch.
So with this wreath, I’d bring it in when the weather doesn’t look like it’s going to be sunny. Wouldn’t want to take a chance and ruin the new wreath. I guess it’s really meant to be a “Summer” display only…unless you live in areas where the sun shines most of the year ( lucky you!)

      Ahoy!

Kim, you have just inspired me for yet another project!!! Good thing it’s early Spring and I have enough time to get this wreath project going for the Summer. I looks great and not too, too difficult to make. I’m going to use my 40% off coupons at Beverly’s to buy the most expensive item(s) of this craft project.
    Your ideas are so awesome.
    Ahoy!
