Coastal Christmas Tree

Christmas Trees· Coastal Christmas· Coastal Decor· decorating

♫ “Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, thy leaves are so unchanging”♫ …. especially if you’re artificial. I was jumping up and down with joy when Balsam Hill asked if I’d like to review one of their trees and participate in their 12 Bloggers of Christmas Tour.  They sent me this gorgeous pre-lit Scotch Pine and I instantly knew it would be the perfect tree for this year’s Coastal Christmas Tree!

Coastal Christmas TreeThe Scotch Pine looks and feels so unbelievably realistic, full, dense, soft, and came pre-wired with unique berry shaped, warm white, LED lights that resemble baby pine cone buds. I love a ton of lights and this tree did not disappoint. Set up was a breeze too. The tree even comes with men’s women’s gloves so you won’t scratch up your hands and also comes with two heavy duty storage bags. Seriously, the quality is impressive (and I’m not easily impressed).

A Coastal Christmas

To create my coastal look I used some unique elements to add different texture and interest. I tucked in beachy pampas grass fronds that I had left over from my Pampas Grass Fall Door Swag. And then added whip coral from last year’s Coastal Christmas Tree. I found the coral at the beach a few years ago. It is normally bright purple but I spray painted it white and covered it in Epsom salts so they would look icy.  Then several blue and sparkly sand colored berry sprigs were also tucked in.

Coastal Christmas Tree

Last year I purchased a ton of gorgeous icicle ornaments on clearance at Pottery Barn. They had 3 different styles of icicles. This tree is dripping in icicles!  I added some of my DIY Capizcicles  and single capiz ornaments. The capiz glow and shimmer in the soft lights. Coastal Ornaments

The most favorite ornaments this year on my tree are the Sea Glass Ornaments.  They are so simple to make and you should just see how they look at night! Breathtaking! Sea Glass Ornaments by @sandandsisal

Of course sand dollars and starfish are sprinkled through out the tree too. The starfish simply rest on the branches. Glass baubles in shades of turquoise and mercury glass lend the right amount of watery blues and ocean sparkle. I also moved my Sea Fan Art into this music room from the family room  and created a little wall gallery.Coastal Christmas

Kim — every time I receive your email updates I can’t wait to open to find new and exciting decorating ideas. Your talent is amazing!! I just love looking at all your photos! Would you mind sharing your photography tips? I just purchased a 35mm camera, but can’t seem to get the same results. I tried taking close-ups of holiday items I have around the house but they don’t have that depth perception. I don’t have a blog, but just want to have special family photos — especially since Christmas is around the corner. How do you get the close-up photos and the background is blurred? And without a flash? When I try to get the close-ups, the photos are so washed out by the flash. Your tips would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work! 🙂

Thank you Lisa. You are very kind. Congrats on the new camera! There are so many things I could tell you about photography and I think though it is really all about practice (and I am still trying learning!). None of my photos are ever taken with a flash…. like ever. My photos really improved one I started using a tripod and when I learned how to shoot in manual, but that has only been this last year. I still shoot in automatic with no flash about 50 percent of the time. It’s difficult to get a blurred back ground with the normal kit lens but it can be done. That last picture in the post of the poinsettia was taken in manual with a 50mm lens though. If you are on Pinterest you can check out my Photography Board. It has many pins full of tips from awesome photography bloggers.

Kim, love all your projects!! We just bought a small lake cottage and I’m getting alot of lake projects from you. Could you tell me how you made the wreath with the sea shells. Seen it in the back ground of your beautiful Christmas tree and it caught my eye! 🙂
    Thank You

Love it! I made the glass float ornaments from your site last year for our tree and can’t wait to try the sea glass ones. You’re very inspiring! The driftwood looking reindeer on the table really caught my eye. Did you buy that somewhere or make it?
    Thanks!

I have just discovered your blog, your tree is gorgeous, I love the coastal theme. Excited about your blog I have been jumping around the pages and posts and got excited when I saw what I thought was a link up on your DIY project gallery and linked up my DIY Linen headboard only to realise after that it wasn’t a link up and a page of your own DIY. I do hope this is not a problem, I don’t think it showed up but please feel free to delete if it does.

I’m new ..love your blog! Way back in the “college poor days” of Christmas decorating the tree…I used money tree /coins (the plant) sandwiched two together w waxed dental floss ( was free) & made chains / garland & still have it ?..It reminded me when I saw your sand dollars! .
